Petals from Home - Ideas for Daisies

Looking for some at-home work for Daisies?  Here are some steps to completing some of the petals...

Clover – Using Resources Wisely.
  • Step 1) Show your daughter this video about Clover’s story.
  • Step 2) Make a collage with old magazines or postcards – being resourceful means finding new ways to use old things.
  • Step 3) Help mom or dad make a recipe using leftovers so the food doesn’t go to waste OR brainstorm 3 ways we could use resources wisely at our troop meeting space or at school (draw a picture of it).
Zinni – Considerate and Caring.
  • Step 1) Show your daughter this video about Zinni’s story.
  • Step 2) Brainstorm ways to be like Zinni – how can you be considerate and caring?
  • Step 3) Make a poster or picture to show three ways you can be considerate and caring at home.  Put it somewhere you will see it every day to inspire you to be considerate and caring!
Tula – Courageous and Strong.
  • Step 1) Watch this video about Tula’s story
  • Step 2) Make an art gallery celebrating women who are courageous and strong (could be drawings, magazine images, photos).  Ask a family member to share stories about strong women and create the art piece to celebrate them. Share with someone!
  • Step 3) Draw a pic or make a collage of an animal you think is courageous and strong.  Put it some place you will see it so you will remember to be strong!
Vi – Be a Sister to Every GS.
  • Step 1) Watch the video about Vi's story
  • Step 2) Learn about Juliette Gordon Low.  Watch this video with your daughter.
  • Step 3) Draw a picture of our Daisy troop… write what you like about the girls in our troop!
Gloria – Respect Yourself and Others.
  • Step 1) Watch the video about Gloria's story
  • Step 2) Ask an older role model to give you tips about ways to show respect to others (having good manners, etc).
  • Step 3) Learn how to write thank you notes OR think of three healthy things you can do to show you respect yourself and draw a picture.
Lupe – Honest and Fair.
  • Step 1) Watch the video about Lupe's story
  • Step 2) Act out the story with your family.
  • Step 3) Play a board game with your family and practice following the rules.

Junior Journey in a Day: Agent of Change

As many troops are moving to online meetings, it may be fun to attempt a journey.  Last fall, I hosted a Journey in a Day for Juniors to complete the Agent of Change journey in one day-long retreat.  The event was held in a library so we were able to research female change agents in the children's biography section... but girls could research via the internet (maybe watch YouTube videos) in place of that... Leaders, take a look at my plan and feel free to make it your own!

Tips for Going to the Park - by Logan

Logan and her mom have been participating in a series of park clean ups this spring.  Based on what they have found, Logan has put together some tips that you should follow when you are visiting your local parks.  Following these tips will help everyone enjoy themselves while keeping the parks clean. Logan's Tips:  On a picnic, bring Tupperware, not one-use plastic.  Pick up your dog's poop.  Bring a reusable water bottle.  If you do bring plastic, bring a trash bag with you.  Always bring reusable straws, spoons, forks, knives, and cups. Cleaning up before you leave the park helps protect the local wildlife and also ensures that the next visitors find a clean space to enjoy. A Girl Scout always leaves a place better than she found it! The Junior Girl Scouts in Troop 548 are completing their Bronze award project, which is focused on reducing waste in common spaces.
